Professor Balandin's Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL) research group
members Manu Shamsa, Khan Alim, Weili Liu, Irene Calizo
and Suchismita Ghosh won 4th place at the poster competition sponsored
by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and
Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC). The event took place on
January 17th, 2006 during the Functional Engineered Nano Architectonics (FENA)
annual review workshop. The competition featured 50 posters presented by the research groups from the top
US engineering schools such as UCLA, MIT, UCSB, Stanford, Caltech, USC and NCSU.
The five winning posters have been selected with the help of industry representatives
from Intel, Texas Instruments, IBM, Motorola and AMD. Balandin’d group poster was entitled
Functionalized Nanostructures with Negative Differential Resistance. The award included a Certificate of
Accomplishment for the presenting author Manu Shamsa, PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering,
as well as a cash prize.
